Dr. Who and How it May Continue
New Year's Day was David Tennant's final episode as the Time Lord. Writer, Russel T. Davies, also said goodbye to Dr. Who with the beginning of the new year. While the BBC promises to stay committed to the series, fans wonder how much the show is going to change and for good reason. It has been said that the show will change but be better. Some of us cannot imagine how Dr. Who could get better, but we remain excited to see what the good Doctor has in line for us next. Old plot lines were tied up and new ones will surely have to be created. We will see what Englishman, Matt Smith, will bring to the table as Dr. Who's 11th doctor.

Apple Tablet
While The Geekly Post does not plan on reporting on the pure basis of rumor, the talk of the iTablet, Mac Tablet, or the possible Apple Tablet cannot be ignored.
Speculators are saying that it will be a cross between an iPhone, iPod Touch, and an Mac Book. It would be a travel size, touch screen computer, basically. I, personally, would love something like that, but am trying not to get my hopes up on what this new prodict might be until I see an actual protype. While it is always so easy to speculate, predicting what Apple will come out with next is not my specialty. Apple is supposedly doing a major press conference this month and hopefully they will clear up some of these Apple Tablet rumors for us.

Follow Stan Lee on Twitter
I am following Stan Lee on Twitter and you should too. He is working on starting a ne nation and he needs 1 million followers to get there. At this point he is at what he calls neighborhood level and I really think that a legend like Mr. Lee should be able to reach nation level in no time. If Tila Tequila can get as many followers as she did on Myspace by just showing her ass, Stan Lee should be able to get as many followers as he commands because that man changed our world for the better. He should get a noble peace prize. Go forth and follow smilinstanlee. Geeks unite.Excelsior!
The Hobbit Movie Update
“We’ve decided to have The Hobbit span the two movies, including the White Council and the comings and goings of Gandalf to Dol Guldur,” Del Toro tells Empire Magazine.
“We decided it would be a mistake to try to cram everything into one movie, The essential brief was to do The Hobbit, and it allows us to make The Hobbit in a little more style, if you like, of the [LOTR] trilogy.” Peter Jackson added.
Lord of the Rings fanboys are not showing a united force behind the concept of The Hobbit movie being split into two. Futhermore, they are hoping that the films stay as true to the book as possible and are not modeled after the successful LOTR trilogy films. The Hobbit, after all, has a much different feel than the LOTR. I will keep my eye to the monitor and let you know if I see anything further.
IMDB is showing a release date of December 2011.

Red or Blue Lightsaber
Today, on Twitter, a very interesting question was posed to me. They asked, red or blue lightsaber. I answered blue and I will tell you why here...
In the original Star Wars Trilogy, Luke Skywalker uses a blue lightsaber, except in the scenes where the backdrop is blue (his light saber is sometimes green then), but later switches to a green light saber when Darth Vader cuts off his hand and Luke finally completes the task of creating his own lightsaber.
In the prequels, Obi-Wan (Ben) Kenobi uses a blue lightsaber, as does Anakin Skywalker (whose blue lightsaber is later handed down to his son, Luke, only to be lost when he cuts off his own son's hand).
The red lightsaber, on the other hand, represents The Sith. Darth Vader uses a red lightsaber most of the time, but you may have noticed him still using his blue lightsaber directly after he transitioned from Anakin Skywalker to Darth Vader. He did not, after all, have time to replace the crystal in his lightsaber amidst his Jedi massacre.
I do think that a more appropriate question might be red, blue, or green light saber as theories as to what the difference between the green and the blue might represent are very interesting.

Nexus One
The new Google phone, the Nexus One, is rumored to be launching next week, January 5th. It is being designed by HTC, which I think is a good thing, but it will not include the HTC brand name on it. It will basically be the love child of an iPhone and Google's Android operating system. So far, the thought is that it will be offered with a plan from T-Mobile, but it also may be sold online, unlocked for an additional cost for those of us who are not interested in changing service providers. I will let you know if I hear anything else about the Nexus One. For now I can say it is the first phone that I am excited about seeing for a long time. Depending on the cost for the unlocked phone, I may be changing out my current HTC for a newer and shinier version.

Social Networking, Not So Social
In the spirit of spreading my inner geek, I decided that it was time for The Geekly Post to have some social networking sites. I added a Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter account to my geekly comings and goings. Here is what my experience has been like so far. Myspace, which I feel like gets a bad rap sometimes, has been very user friendly. You can only friend request a certain number of people in any given day without them cutting you off, but once the next day rolls around, you are good to go. Facebook on the other hand will keep giving you reminders that you are engaging in activity that some people may find annoying and they may cancel your account. Fine, cancel it if you must, I still have Myspace. Here is the thing that boggles my mind...if I wanted to friend request even a quarter of the people I know, I would be engaging in "annoying activity", that means that if you start a new page, you have to take forever to grow your network. That's unfortunate, but it is what it is. Twitter might be my favorite of the three accounts I opened yesterday. Here is the thing people... if I friend requested you, you may or may not know me, but I certainly am not going to tell you because that would defeat the whole purpose of this...

Why Princess Leia is a Princess
I have been asked why Princess Leia is called Princess even though her mother was no longer a queen when she was conceived. Here is a brief history on why Princess Leia is called Princess Leia.
Princess Leia Organa Solo was born Leia Amadala Skywalker. She is the birth daughter of Padme Amidala and Anakin Skywalker, who became Darth Vader. Upon the death of her mother, Padme Amidala who once was a queen and later became a sentator, and the turning of her father to the dark side, Leia was adopted by Bail and Breha Organa in Alderaan. The family she was adopted into was royal, hence the title of Princess. Leia was the crowned princess of Alderaan. So, you see boys and girls, although Leia's birith mother was in fact at one point a queen, her royal title came from her adoptive family.
I hope this answers the question as to why Leia is a princess even though Padme was a senator upon Leia's birth.
